July 2024
Haley’s baby boy is due in September…and we had a baby shower at the new barn!
As the baby is coming soon, my lease with Summer is coming to an end. We’ll be going to Del Mar at the end of this month to try out available horses. In preparation, I’ve penned out a few characteristics I'd like my unicorn of a horse to have:
· Straight forward
· True Jumper
· Brave
· Scope between .90 – 1.10 m plus
· Gelding
· Between 9 – 12 years old
· Any color but Grey
We traveled to Del Mar and in between rounds of competition throughout the day, I tried 5 different horses and a sixth final horse at the end of the day. Although she was the most interesting, she was a mare. She was a smaller horse out of Mexico, a fun jumper, and I think it may have been the first time I smiled all day. Number 6…her name is Bella and she’s 11, she’s quick and jumps like a gazelle. She easily took me over 1.0 m in just a brief ride. She’s straightforward, has more scope in her future and I know she could take me to the next level.
Unfortunately, she just won the Grand Prix 1.25 m with the fastest time, so her price just doubled. We are unable to come to an agreement. She’s a mare, on the smaller side and realistically, she's not matching a majority of my wish list. The owners are going to take her back to Mexico and I’m ok, as she’s not the horse for me. I’m still looking for lightning to strike and I have faith that when I sit on the right horse that is for me, lightning will strike.
