An Airplane vs. An Arc

Updated: Sep 11, 2023

101ST ANNUAL FLINTRIDGE HORSE SHOW, LaCANADA, CA, APRIL 29-30, 2023 #805

Soldier and I competed at the Flintridge Riding Club in La Canada, California and although we didn’t win top ribbons, it was a major learning experience for the both of us! We tried hard in each round, and we were in the middle of the ribbon awards placing: 4th in .65m Jumper, 5th .65m Jumper, and 7th in the .70m Jumper.

Soldier jumps pretty flat (when I mean “flat”, instead of jumping over the jump in an arc format, like when a basketball player shoots a basketball, he jumps straight, like when you throw a paper airplane). So, unfortunately, we clipped a rail on different rounds, mostly at the very last rail, which knocked me down in the standings becuase of the penalties. Now, he and I will work on getting him more uphill (basically getting him to jump in more of an arc shape instead of so flat).

On Sunday, the final day of the competition, we jumped in the main arena and my friends, Cooper and Marcus, came out early to watch me. It was so early for them, they actually wore their pajamas! This was my best round of the show, and I placed 4th. Soldier and I did a clean round, and I was so happy to have my friends and their families there watching me! I introduced Soldier to Marcus' little brother Roman.
